1. PAVER BLOCK โ€“ SCOPE OF WORK
1.1 Scope Of Work

Laying of interlocking concrete paver blocks for road paving, footpaths, pedestrian plazas, and heavy-duty industrial roads/container yards. Includes sub-base preparation, laying of bedding sand, block installation, edge restraints, joint filling, compaction, and quality control.

1.2 Reference Standards

IS 15658 (Precast concrete blocks for paving), IRC:SP:63 (Guidelines for use of interlocking concrete block pavement), ASTM C936 (interlocking concrete pavers).

๐Ÿงฑ PAVER TYPES & RECOMMENDED THICKNESS
Application / Traffic ClassPaver TypeThickness (mm)Compressive Strength (MPa)

Heavy duty / Industrial roadsHeavy-duty (reinforced)100 โ€“ 12045 โ€“ 50
Container yards / PortsExtra heavy-duty (with fiber)120 โ€“ 150โ‰ฅ50

As per IS 15658, minimum grade M35 for light traffic, M40 for heavy traffic.

Paver count varies with shape and pattern (herringbone uses more cuts). Add 5% wastage.

๐Ÿ”ฒ LAYING PATTERNS & EDGE RESTRAINTS
Common patterns
  • Herringbone (45ยฐ / 90ยฐ): Best for load distribution โ€“ used in heavy duty and roads.
  • Stretcher bond: Aesthetic for footpaths.
  • Basket weave: Decorative plazas.
  • Circular / radial: Custom designs.
Edge restraints
  • Concrete kerb (M20) cast in situ or precast.
  • Steel / concrete edging pinned into base.
  • Essential to prevent horizontal creep of blocks.
6. PAVER LAYING PROCEDURE
6.1 Subgrade & Sub-base Preparation
  • Excavate to required level, compact subgrade (98% proctor).
  • Lay GSB/WMM in layers, compact to 98% density.
6.2 Bedding Sand Spreading
  • Spread coarse sand (30โ€“50 mm) using screed pipes; level to correct profile.
  • Do not compact before paver laying.
6.3 Paver Installation
  • Lay pavers in chosen pattern, starting from edge restraint.
  • Cut blocks at edges using masonry saw.
  • Maintain joint width 2โ€“5 mm.
6.4 Compaction & Joint Filling
  • Use plate compactor with rubber mat (80โ€“100 Hz) โ€“ minimum 3 passes.
  • Spread fine sand over surface, vibrate into joints, repeat until joints full.
6.5 Final Rolling & Inspection
  • Final compaction check, surface tolerance ยฑ5 mm with 3m straight edge.
  • Sweep excess sand, open to traffic after 24 hours.

Output depends on block size, pattern complexity, and site access.

๐Ÿญ HEAVY DUTY ROADS / INDUSTRIAL PAVING
Design & material
  • Paver thickness โ‰ฅ100 mm, grade M40โ€“M50.
  • Base course thickness โ‰ฅ300 mm (cement-treated base optional).
  • Use edge restraints with concrete curb M30, dowelled if required.
  • Joint width 3โ€“5 mm; joint sand with bitumen coating for dust control.
Compaction & quality
  • Heavy plate compactor (โ‰ฅ100 Hz) with high amplitude.
  • Check flatness after compaction โ€“ max deviation 5 mm.
  • Proof load test for industrial yards.
