1. CEMENT MORTAR PLASTER – SCOPE
1.1 Scope Of Work

Application of cement plaster on ceiling, interior walls, and exterior walls including smooth finish, sponge finish, and cement punning. All thicknesses 6mm to 20mm as per specification.

1.2 Reference Drawing

Architectural elevations, room schedules, interior/exterior finish drawings.

🧪 MIX PROPORTIONS & MATERIAL PER 10mm THICKNESS (per 100 m²)
Standard mixes & consumption
Plaster TypeMix (C:S)Thickness (mm)Cement (bags/100m²)Sand (m³/100m²)Remarks
Ceiling plaster1:36–81.8 – 2.20.22 – 0.26fine sand, extra bond
Interior wall (rough)1:4 or 1:512–153.2 – 4.00.48 – 0.60common for undercoat
Interior finish coat1:34–6 (over undercoat)1.2 – 1.60.16 – 0.20smooth finish
Exterior plaster1:4 (with waterproof)15–204.5 – 6.00.65 – 0.85waterproofing compound
Cement punning1:2 or 1:3 (slurry)2–30.8 – 1.20.08 – 0.12neat cement + fine sand

* Consumption per 100m² for 10mm thickness; adjust for actual thickness. Sand = coarse sand (interior/exterior) except punning uses fine sand.

Typical mixes by location:
Ceiling: 1:3 (cement:sand), 6–8mm thick – fine sand for no sagging.
Interior walls: Undercoat 1:5 (12mm), finish coat 1:3 (4mm) = total 16mm.
Exterior walls: 1:4 with waterproofing, 15–20mm thick (two coats).
Smooth finish / punning: 1:2 or 1:3 slurry, 2–3mm applied on fresh plaster.

📏 COMMONLY USED PLASTER THICKNESS
SurfaceTotal thicknessCoats
Ceiling6 mm – 8 mmsingle coat
Interior wall (brick/concrete)12 mm – 15 mmtwo coat (10+5 or 12+4)
Exterior wall15 mm – 20 mmtwo coat with waterproof
Rough finish / undercoat only12 mm – 18 mmsingle coat
Cement punning (smooth coat)2 mm – 3 mmslurry applied on fresh plaster

Thickness may vary per specification; always maintain minimum coverage over lath/points.

4. PLASTERING PROCEDURE
4.1 Surface Preparation
  • Clean surface, roughen if smooth, apply cement slurry for bond. For ceiling, ensure no loose particles.
4.2 Grounds / Dots
  • Fix plaster dots (15x15cm) at 2m intervals to maintain level and thickness.
4.3 Mixing & Application
  • Mix cement and sand dry, add water, use within 30 min. Apply in layers, compact with float. For exterior, use waterproofing compound.
4.4 Finishing & Curing
  • Finish with sponge/wood float for smooth surface. Cure for 7 days minimum (keep moist).
⏱️ LABOUR OUTPUT (per 8 hours)
ActivityMason + 1 helperRemarks
Ceiling plaster (6–8mm)12–16 m²overhead work slower
Interior wall plaster (12–15mm)18–25 m²includes two coats
Exterior plaster (15–20mm)14–20 m²scaffolding, waterproofing
Cement punning (2–3mm)30–40 m²on fresh undercoat

Output varies with wall height, access, and mix consistency.

🏖️ SAND SPECIFICATION
Fine sand vs coarse sand
  • Exterior plaster: Coarse sand (Zone II or III) – provides better strength, less shrinkage cracks.
  • Interior plaster: Medium/coarse sand for undercoat; fine sand for finish coat (smooth appearance).
  • Ceiling plaster: Fine sand (Zone III/IV) – avoids sagging, better workability.
  • Cement punning: Very fine sand (or neat cement with fine sand) for glossy finish.
